What is an Orbit?
An Orbit is your organisation’s workspace on Horbit: its own address, branding, members, events, team and payment settings. What is in one Orbit is kept separate from every other Orbit.
Can each of our chapters have its own Orbit?
Yes. Each chapter can run its own Orbit with its own branding, team and payout account, and anyone who helps run more than one can switch between them with the same login. A combined view across chapters is on our roadmap — talk to us if you need it.
Is Horbit really free to start?
Yes. Creating an Orbit, adding members and publishing free events costs nothing, and every new Orbit gets 300 starter units for its first messages. You only top up when you send more.
What are units?
Units are prepaid credit for things that cost us to deliver — emails through our mail service, SMS, WhatsApp messages, certificates and AI drafts. One unit costs ₦0.50. Units never expire, and a send is stopped before it starts if your balance cannot cover it.
How do paid tickets and dues reach us?
Through Paystack, straight to your organisation’s bank account, in full. The payer covers a small Horbit fee and Paystack’s processing fee at checkout.
Do we need our own WhatsApp number?
To send campaigns and run the team inbox, yes — you link your organisation’s number to your Orbit, and your first number is free. Horbit sends important alerts from its own number on your behalf when needed.
Will broadcasting get our number banned?
Campaigns are paced over hours or days and opt-outs are respected, which is what keeps numbers healthy. No tool can promise a number will never be restricted, so we send at a pace that protects it.
Can we bring our existing member list?
Yes. Import members from a spreadsheet, and set up your tiers and renewal dates so dues pick up where they left off.
Who can see our members’ data?
Only the people you give access to, with the permissions you choose. Members of one Orbit are never visible to another.
Can our members log in?
Yes. The member portal lets members see their events, invoices, documents and resources at your Orbit’s own address.
